Lure of Antiques..
What’s the attraction of collecting antiques? Well it can be explained in a lay man’s words like “Not only it’s a fascinating hobby, but its one with which you can furnish your house in an individual way, and even make money, if your commercial sense is good enough. People should always buy the things they like, this sounds obvious enough but it’s surprising that many people end up buying something they felt was in “good taste”- even it that taste isn’t theirs.
Before getting into buying antiques a person should develop a definite taste, to have a fair blend of knowledge they have numerous options to opt for like going to salesrooms (Auction House), read books, browse shops and even visit museums until different periods and types of merchandise become familiar to them. One should be beware of buying something simply because they were told it would be a good investment.
The Antiques market is known to be a volatile one, depending very much for its rise and falls on money markets, currency rates, the changes in public taste and even political stability. Antiques do represent a fairly stable and good investment because they are rare and becoming rarer by definition. They usually represent good quality of workmanship.
The most interesting thing about the world of antiques, and what makes it fascinating to buyer and seller alike, is that everything in it has an individual quality. If you are dealing with handmade pieces, you have to except some differences, and when you are dealing with old things, you have to expect different conditions.
